Over 125 students from 10 Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) schools have been recognised for their empathy and powerful storytelling as part of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Australia Refugee Week Creative Competition.
Held as part of Refugee Week under the 2026 theme, ‘A Million Stories’, the competition invited students to respond creatively through artwork, writing or video, sharing messages of hope and belonging for refugees and people seeking asylum.
JRS Schools and Community Engagement Officer, Kristen Lazarus, said this year’s entries were inspiring.
“We were incredibly inspired by the nearly 150 entries we received from students across Australia, each one reflecting thoughtful messages of belonging, hope, and the richness of a multicultural Australia,” said Kristen.

CSPD students made an outstanding contribution to the competition, their moving submissions reflecting the compassion and social justice values nurtured through Catholic education.
“We were delighted to welcome so many CSPD students and their families to our Refugee Week exhibition…a wonderful celebration of art, storytelling and community. Their creativity demonstrates how young people can help build a more welcoming and inclusive community through the stories they choose to tell,” JRS’s Kristen Lazarus said.
An impressive 14 of the 19 shortlisted works were created by CSPD students.

The shortlisted students and their families were invited to attend a Refugee Leadership Exhibition hosted by JRS Australia in Surry Hills on Friday 26 June, where their work was showcased alongside moving stories and creative pieces highlighting the experiences and resilience of refugees and people seeking asylum.
Many of the student artists, writers and filmmakers also shared personal reflections about their work, with some drawing on their own family migration and refugee experiences to create deeply meaningful entries.
The competition provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage with the stories of others, reflect on the importance of welcome and inclusion and use their creativity to advocate for compassion and justice.

๐บ A New Partnership Across the Pacific! ๐ผ๐ธ๐๐ St Agnes Catholic High School is proud to announce a new partnership with Palauli School in Samoa and Sapatea Hub. Through this exciting initiative, our students will connect with students in Samoa through online exchanges, sharing school experiences, culture, leadership, music and dance, while learning from one another. As part of the launch, St Agnes will proudly donate a full set of basketball singlets and rugby jerseys to Palauli School, marking the beginning of what we hope will be a long-lasting relationship built on respect, culture, connection and service. Throughout the year, our students will also have opportunities to contribute through donation drives for educational resources, sporting equipment and school supplies, while student leaders help strengthen cultural connections across both communities. A special thank you to Eronny Mareko, Mrs Dwyer, Mr Nansen and Mr Fonua for bringing this wonderful partnership to life. โฝ INTER BOYS FOOTBALL โ GRAND FINAL BOUND! โฝ What a performance from our Inter Boys Football team last Thursday! ๐ The boys played incredibly in their Semi Final against Bede Polding, coming away with a 5โ2 victory after taking a commanding 5โ0 lead! ๐ฅ A special shout-out to Kuan, who was outstanding, scoring a brilliant hat-trick! โฝโฝโฝ The boys now progress to the Grand Final this week, where they will take on Marian College at Blacktown Football Park. We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of three St Agnes students who recently represented Australia at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, held from 25 July โ 1 August 2026. ๐ฆ๐บ๐๐บ Congratulations to: โญ Nathaniel Digges-Lagula โ Year 10 โญ Mia Nikas-Hardy โ Year 10 โญ Savannah Digges-Lagula โ Year 8 All three students competed in the Junior Varsity Megacrew Division, taking on 38 dance crews from around the world and achieving an incredible 6th place in the WORLD! ๐๐ Nathaniel and Savannah also competed in a second event in the Varsity Division, placing an impressive 11th in the WORLD out of 60 dance crews! ๐คฉ๐ฅ The World Hip Hop Dance Championship brought together more than 3,000 dancers from 60 countries, showcasing some of the world's most talented performers. What an incredible accomplishment and an amazing experience for our St Agnes students! We are so proud of Nathaniel, Mia and Savannah for representing Australia and St Agnes Catholic High School on the world stage. ๐ฆ๐บ๐๐
