Penrith Rugby Champs

St Agnes Catholic High School Girls' Rugby League team became the Penrith District champions after solid performances in the Girls' Panther Trophy Gala Day and Western Sydney Gala Days.

St Agnes prepared themselves for a tough competition at the Girls' Panther Trophy Gala Day with Catholic and state high schools competing against each other, however the girls held their own in the Under 16’s 9-a-side competition.

With 12 teams in this age group, St Agnes was drawn in a pool with teams from Xavier College, Cambridge Park High School and St Clare’s Catholic High School.

Following a comfortable 5-1 win against the Xavier College Girls' side in the first match, St Agnes had a solid win in their second game against St Clare’s.

The third game proved to be a tougher battle against the Cambridge Park High School side.

Starting the game slightly weaker on defence, the St Agnes girls were determined to work on improving the strength and impact of their tackles, ultimately leading their team to a 14-0 victory.

The qualifying final of the Girls' Panther Trophy Gala Day ensured the victorious team an invitation to the Western Sydney Gala Day as the Penrith District representatives.

Battling for this honour were St Agnes Catholic High School and Rooty Hill High School.

This game proved to be the toughest of the day for the St Agnes girls, with Rooty Hill High School a worthy opponent as the St Agnes girls' skills, endurance and courage were tested.

Once again demonstrating a strong defence, St Agnes won the qualifying final 3-2.

The girl's now take their position as the Penrith District champions leading into the next level of competition against other prominent districts including Canterbury and Parramatta.
