Boys Basketball Gala Day
13 Mar 2015
On Monday 23rd February, the Junior and Intermediate Boys’ Basketball teams travelled to Penrith Sports Stadium for a PDSSSC Basketball Gala Day.
This tournament serves as an entry point for the regional and state tournaments with the winners advancing to higher honors later in the year.
Last year was the first time in school history that St Agnes had a team at the state titles with the Intermediate Boys placing fifth in the State. This year the team was almost a brand new team and the gala day was a chance for them to develop their skills and form combinations for future success. The boys competed strongly but did not progress past the round robin stage of the competition.
The Junior Boys were made up of mainly year eight students who played together in last years’ PDSSSC competition and were keen to show that they have improved significantly from last year.
The boys had to play six games with the winner of the tournament being the team with the most points acquired throughout the day. There was to be no grand final. In their first game, St Agnes drew to play Gilroy. The boys dominated this game from start to finish with their superior run and finished by winning the game by six points with all players contributing strongly.
Game two saw St Agnes against St Columbus. They were a very aggressive and physical team. St Agnes again was the better team, but with a couple of very dubious refereeing decisions, and a very lucky 3-point buzzer beater from St Columbus, the game ended in a draw. This meant that St Agnes would have to win their remaining games to win the tournament.
The boys played very well in their next games against St Bishoy’s and Xavier winning both very comfortably displaying high work ethic on defense and incredible teamwork on offense.
This moved St Agnes to second place with a game against the undefeated St Andrews. The winner of this game would go on to win the competition. St Agnes started the game strongly through Renard, Bronx, Jomari and JT scoring eight of the first ten points. The boys did not let up on defense and St Andrews struggled to make any impact throughout the first half. In the second half, the game became a little closer, but even though they were very drained after a long day, the boys held on to win by three points.
The boys played extremely well all day and are now ready to take on the best teams in the Regional PDSSSC event in Term Two.

🧵👩🍳 TEXTILES UPDATE! 👨🍳🧵 Our talented Year 7 Textiles students have been hard at work designing and making aprons as part of their latest project! 🎨✂️ The design brief challenged them to create an apron suitable as PPE for use in the kitchen – a practical and creative task that required them to follow the full Design Process, from initial ideas through to evaluation. While most of the class is nearly there, three students have already finished their aprons right on time – check out their amazing work in the photos attached! 👏👏👏 These aprons won’t just sit on a hanger – they’ll be put to good use in Year 8 Food Tech next year! 🍳🥗 So proud of the effort and creativity shown by all students so far – can’t wait to see the rest completed! 💙

Students from the ACU Ubuntu program attended the ACU Blacktown Campus. They have engaged in an 8 week academic skills program to support them with successfully accessing the ACU Step Up Program next year. These University outreach opportunities are thanks to Carol Allen and Youssef Taouk, who continue to find opportunities to advocate for Sudanese and Refugee communities. We thank them for their tireless work and look forward to seeing the impact this program has on the future aspirations and self-efficacy of our young people.

Congratulations Savannah Tofaeono on your selection for the Australian Schoolgirls Rugby League Trials taking place in Townsville. Savannah is one of St Agnes’ very own talented Rugby League players. Her progress over the past few years has been incredible, and what she has accomplished in the world of Rugby League is truly inspiring. Savannah’s accomplishments on the field are impressive. She has been a key player for the St Agnes Rugby League team in the Panther Trophy competition over the past few years. Last season, she played a major role in helping our U16s girls team win the tournament despite playing one player short in every game, all while she was just 15 years old. This year, Savannah has participated in several representative trials, earning selection for the Parramatta Diocese team and subsequently the NSWCCC side. To help Savannah out on this huge achievement to get her to Townsville, we are asking for donations in the form of a gold coin or via the QKR App. So give generous if you can. Good luck Savannah!!! We are all cheering for you.

On the 12th of June, our school captains Angela and Ethan, alongside our Mission Leader Ruby, had the privilege of attending the LIFTED Leaders Bishop’s Breakfast. The morning featured an engaging keynote speaker who explored the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence on both society and faith. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to connect with other school leaders, members of the Catholic Church, and Jack De Groot, Executive Director of Schools. Through meaningful dialogue and shared insights, our student leaders came away inspired and empowered to lead positive change within our school and across the wider diocese

🧱 Year 12 Construction – Concreting in Action! On 5 June, our Year 12 Construction students at St Agnes Catholic High School rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on with a concreting project for the school garden beds. As part of their Set in Stone unit, students applied skills from their coursework—measuring, levelling, and pouring concrete—to create slabs that will be used by the Environmental Committee. The weather held out, and the teamwork was fantastic. A great example of classroom learning coming to life!

Together For Humanity Fundraiser at Parliament House On Wednesday, 4th June 2025, four St Agnes student leaders, Austin, Annliya, Alex, and Angela, had the honour of representing our school at the Together For Humanity (TFH) Fundraiser held at Parliament House, Sydney. Selected for their exceptional involvement in TFH Leadership Training, the students joined Miss Fielding on a panel facilitated by journalist Ally Langdon, where they spoke powerfully about leadership, inclusion, and intercultural understanding. Their reflections highlighted the importance of accepting difference, breaking down prejudice, and creating a world where all people are valued and welcomed for who they are. The event was attended by prominent Members of Parliament, who voiced strong support for initiatives that promote diversity, unity, and social cohesion.
