PDSSSC Cross Country
18 May 2021
On Friday 23rd April, 19 enthusiastic and talented athletes braved the cool of the morning to be at school by 7.00am to compete in the PDSSSC Cross Country Carnival at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. A total of 642 students competed on the day.
All students were outstanding ambassadors for the St Agnes School Community. They participated with skill, determination and courage, running distances ranging from 3km up to 6 km.
Their support and encouragement of each other and the sportsmanship they displayed to their fellow competitors was as impressive as their individual performances. There was a shared sense of community and spirit within the St Agnes School team.
The individual performances of all students were noteworthy, with most of them finishing in the top 20.
There were a few stand out performances. Dimo Dimo won the Boys U’15 event and Chloe Watson placed 4th in the Girls U’16 competition. Both students will now compete at the NSWCCC Cross Country Championships at Eastern Creek in June. Andrea Plaatjes placed 7th in the Girls U’13 competition, missing representation at the next level by one place - or a metre in terms of distance.
The full list of competitors follows.
- Year 7 - Emily Ahad, Shana Allen, Lincoln Johnston, Lucas Lombardo, Aayan Patel, Andrea Plaatjes, Summer Reynolds, Liam Robinson, Alyssa Younan.
- Year 8 - Bettina Mangahas, Eyob Musgun, Aiden Sadsad, Dilan Salman.
- Year 10 - Quincy Brewer, Dimo Dimo, Farrell Hagan, Zaelic Orayenza, James Que, Chloe Watson.
Congratulations to all that participated.

On Friday, 5 students from years 9 & 10 kicked off Book Week early by attending the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book of the Year Awards at the State Library! These students have been participating in the CBCA's Shadow Judging program, where they read and critique the 6 shortlisted books in the same way the adult judges select the official winner. Around 400 groups of students across Australia participated this year, and our students voted in the older ready category. Their choice was I'm Not Really Here by Gary Lonseborough, closely followed by Birdy by Sharon Kernot. All shortlisted books are on display in our library, and ready to borrow. Asides from attending the ceremony, students also had an opportunity to visit the library's Shakespeare Room, the famous Mitchell Reading Room, and take a wander through one of the library's exhibitions

We’re proud of our Year 11 students who have put themselves forward for the 2026 Year 12 leadership roles — including Mission, Cultural Diversity, SRC, and School Captains. As part of their preparation, 28 students took part in an inspiring one-hour workshop with leadership communication expert Michael Kelly. The session focused on voice, delivery, and audience engagement, helping our emerging leaders craft compelling speeches that reflect their vision and values. We can’t wait to hear them in action next week!

𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟏𝟏 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 Today, our Year 11 students stepped up to the podium to present their speeches for the 2026 Leadership positions. Each candidate spoke passionately about their vision for the school, their commitment to our community, and the qualities they believe make an effective leader. They showed confidence, courage, and a genuine desire to serve. It was inspiring to see the maturity and enthusiasm of our senior students as they shared their hopes for making a positive impact. We congratulate all students who nominated themselves, putting their hand up for leadership takes both bravery and dedication. We look forward to announcing the successful candidates soon, knowing that our school will be in capable and caring hands.
