Former St Agnes Rooty Hill student and Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak
Former St Agnes Rooty Hill student and Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak is the nation’s hero after scoring three goals and securing Australia’s place in the 2018 World Cup.
Jedinak began playing when he was chosen to be part of the PDSSSC – a competition between Catholic schools within the Parramatta Diocesan – where he played for St Agnes Catholic High, the same school compatriot Željko Kalac attended.
He also played for Loyola Senior High School, Mount Druitt in the Jesuit Cup. As captain, Jedinak led the team to success, winning the competition.
Last night there were concerns about his stamina because he hadn’t played 90 minutes of football since June.
Coach Ange Postecoglou knew playing the skipper against Honduras would be a gamble but it paid off in awesome fashion.
Dogged by a groin injury for months, Jedinak had not featured for the Socceroos since June but his efforts last night were stunning.
The headline act was his stunning hat-tick in the 3-1 ANZ Stadium demolition that sealed Australia’s passage to a fourth-consecutive World Cup.
“It’s extra special,” Jedinak said.
“It was our duty as a nation of football players to get this job done.
“We set out on a task two and a half years ago ... and we stuck to our guns, we got here in the end.
“Now it’s time to enjoy this moment and look forward to what is going to be a big 2018.”
All three of Jedinak’s set piece goals came in the second half.
His 72nd minute penalty provoked a huge outpouring of emotion from the normally measured and mild-mannered leader, who ran 70 metres to celebrate in front the crowd.

🌺 A New Partnership Across the Pacific! 🇼🇸🏀🏉 St Agnes Catholic High School is proud to announce a new partnership with Palauli School in Samoa and Sapatea Hub. Through this exciting initiative, our students will connect with students in Samoa through online exchanges, sharing school experiences, culture, leadership, music and dance, while learning from one another. As part of the launch, St Agnes will proudly donate a full set of basketball singlets and rugby jerseys to Palauli School, marking the beginning of what we hope will be a long-lasting relationship built on respect, culture, connection and service. Throughout the year, our students will also have opportunities to contribute through donation drives for educational resources, sporting equipment and school supplies, while student leaders help strengthen cultural connections across both communities. A special thank you to Eronny Mareko, Mrs Dwyer, Mr Nansen and Mr Fonua for bringing this wonderful partnership to life. Our Ultimate Frisbee team went through the entire season undefeated, capping off an incredible season with a 7–3 Grand Final victory over MCHF to be crowned champions! 🏆🥏 A huge thank you to Mr Fonua for coaching the team and Mr Dempsey for assisting him throughout the season. ⚽ INTER BOYS FOOTBALL — GRAND FINAL BOUND! ⚽ What a performance from our Inter Boys Football team last Thursday! 🙌 The boys played incredibly in their Semi Final against Bede Polding, coming away with a 5–2 victory after taking a commanding 5–0 lead! 🔥 A special shout-out to Kuan, who was outstanding, scoring a brilliant hat-trick! ⚽⚽⚽ The boys now progress to the Grand Final this week, where they will take on Marian College at Blacktown Football Park. We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of three St Agnes students who recently represented Australia at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, held from 25 July – 1 August 2026. 🇦🇺💃🕺 Congratulations to: ⭐ Nathaniel Digges-Lagula – Year 10 ⭐ Mia Nikas-Hardy – Year 10 ⭐ Savannah Digges-Lagula – Year 8 All three students competed in the Junior Varsity Megacrew Division, taking on 38 dance crews from around the world and achieving an incredible 6th place in the WORLD! 🌎🏆 Nathaniel and Savannah also competed in a second event in the Varsity Division, placing an impressive 11th in the WORLD out of 60 dance crews! 🤩🔥 The World Hip Hop Dance Championship brought together more than 3,000 dancers from 60 countries, showcasing some of the world's most talented performers. What an incredible accomplishment and an amazing experience for our St Agnes students!
