“we can be HEROES…just for one day”
26 May 2017

It started as a rather ambitious idea to try and get the whole school involved and invested in our annual Project Compassion drive for 2017. The result far exceeded everyone’s expectations.
HERO DAY is an initiative where each year group, in their respective houses, will create a fundraising stall with all proceeds to go towards Project Compassion. As an extra incentive, every $1 raised would contribute to 1 point, along with bonus points each week, to go towards their respective house’s opportunity to go to Jamberoo at the end of the year.
Over the past few weeks our homerooms, along with their supportive learning advisors, sold a variety of foods, from Nachos, Fish and Chips, Cakes, Pizza, Hot Chips, Cupcakes, Hot dogs, Hot Chips, French Crepes, Pancakes, Cultural Drinks and more Hot Chips!
It was truly a wonderful campaign over the past two months with our community raising an amount that exceeded all expectations.
Here is the overall breakdown:
- Chisholm: $1561.20
- Francis: $1566.85
- Mackillop: $2034.10
- Xavier: $1947.75
In total we raised an amazing $7109.80 for Project Compassion!
Our final points tally was as follows:
- Chisholm: 1561 points
- Francis: 1563 points
- Mackillop: 2132 points
- Xavier: 2044 points
This outstanding result could not have happened without the support of our community. Thank you to our parent community for your continued support and assistance in making these stalls a reality. Finally, a massive thank you to our amazing teaching staff and students for embracing this campaign. We can truly see that over the weeks the fruits of these little stalls are bigger than the money raised. We have witnessed stronger bonds within house groups, personalities shine from students who are generally shy, our students quickly discovering economics in action, stronger rapport built between LA's and the students and a strengthening of our St Agnes community spirit.
On Friday Mr Harry Sadsad and our School Leaders presented representatives from Caritas, Sister Louise and Elise with a cheque for $7586.00. Sister Louise addressed the assembly and spoke of the wonderful achievement of the students and the money raised will be used towards Project Compassion projects in Fiji.
Many lives in our global community will be forever changed for the better from your combined efforts.
Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.

Today, our school community gathered for our Opening School Mass, a beautiful way to begin the year in faith and unity. We were blessed to be joined by Father Matthew Dimian from St Aidan’s Catholic Church. Celebrated at Mary, Queen of the Family Parish, the Mass included the blessing of our new teachers, Year 7 students and Portfolio Leaders. We look forward to a year guided by faith, service and the Franciscan values of peace, simplicity and joy. 🙏✨

Today, our school community gathered in prayer for Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season at St. Agnes Catholic High School. With ashes traced in the sign of the cross and the words, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return,” we were reminded of our call to renewal, humility, and deeper faith. This sacred day invites each of us to pause, reflect, and begin again — turning our hearts toward God through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. As we enter this Lenten journey together, may our school be strengthened in faith, united in love, and committed to living out the Gospel each day. Let us walk these forty days with purpose, preparing our hearts for the joy of Easter. #AshWednesday #Lent #StAgnes #FaithInAction
