On Monday 8 February 2016 the official launch of Caritas Australia’s 2016 Project Compassion appeal was held at the Catholic Learning Community of Blessed John the XXIII and St Mark’s Catholic College, Stanhope Gardens.
International guest speaker Martin Mazinga from Caritas Malawi spoke to students about the importance of education and the impact Project Compassion has on the lives of the people in Malawi.
Throughout the Lenten period Catholic Schools in western Sydney held various events to fundraise for the Project Compassion appeal.
Year 7 students of St Agnes Catholic High School, Rooty Hill pooled together and held a 'St Agnes Appreciation Day' where students purchased an appreciation certificate to pass onto a student and/or teacher who they believe have made a positive contribution to their schooling.
St Bernadette’s Primary, Lalor Park held a fundraiser during Catholic School's Week hosting a cake stall and raffle, which raised over $1000.
Our Lady of the Nativity Primary, Lawson held a Project Compassion fundraiser on St Patrick's Day.

CSPD joins 20th anniversary tribute to Indigenous Veterans
Since its inception in 2007, the annual Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Service has united Australians to remember and honour the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans. Students and staff from schools across the Parramatta Diocese along with members of the Jarara Cultural Centre joined Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales and hundreds of other students at Hyde Park for the moving ceremony on Friday 29 May.

𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟏𝟎 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 🍽️🌏 Our Year 10 students recently undertook an engaging assessment task exploring the rich cultural diversity that has shaped Australia’s food landscape. Students selected a cultural group, other than their own, that has immigrated to Australia and investigated the historical, social, and culinary factors that define the group’s food identity. They then analysed the influence this culture has had on Australian cuisine and prepared an authentic dish representing their chosen group. 👩🍳🥘 It was wonderful to see the students’ creativity, research skills, and cultural appreciation showcased through such a variety of delicious dishes! 👏✨

Last year St Agnes Catholic High School was proud to represent our community at the Together For Humanity fundraising event, hosted by journalist and TFH Board Director Ally Langdon. Our student leaders Annilya Albin, Austin Menolotto, Alex Newell and Angela Younan joined Mrs Hayley Dwyer on a panel discussing the impact of school-based programs that foster inclusivity, intercultural understanding, and acceptance of difference. The students spoke with maturity, confidence, and heart about the importance of challenging stereotypes and embracing diversity within our school community. We wish both girls the very best as they now prepare to compete at the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships in Coffs Harbour this July 🏆🔥 Good luck girls — we are so proud of you both! 💪⭐
