Sydney Symphony Orchestra Excursion
23 Jun 2015
On Friday 29th May, 2015 Mr Weaver had the pleasure of taking 37 Elective Music students from Years Nine and Ten to the Angel Place Recital Hall in Sydney to see a lunchtime concert performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
The concert was a great opportunity for our students to experience live classical music and ties in with their current topic of study in class. We all had a great day and many interesting questions were asked by students and answered by members of the orchestra.
Several members of the public commented on how well behaved our students were during the train journey from Rooty Hill to Wynyard, which is a great compliment to our students.
“The excursion to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was both educational and enthralling. It was a great opportunity to learn about the orchestra and the wonderful sounds produced by the string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections. By viewing instruments of the orchestra being played by professionals from a close proximity, we discovered the beauty and complexity of classical music. From jamming during the train trip to listening to the lively tunes of fanfares and musical pieces from the violin, clarinet, trumpet, timpani, and many other instruments, we were engulfed in the music of the present, past and most importantly, the music of the classical era.”

On Friday, 5 students from years 9 & 10 kicked off Book Week early by attending the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book of the Year Awards at the State Library! These students have been participating in the CBCA's Shadow Judging program, where they read and critique the 6 shortlisted books in the same way the adult judges select the official winner. Around 400 groups of students across Australia participated this year, and our students voted in the older ready category. Their choice was I'm Not Really Here by Gary Lonseborough, closely followed by Birdy by Sharon Kernot. All shortlisted books are on display in our library, and ready to borrow. Asides from attending the ceremony, students also had an opportunity to visit the library's Shakespeare Room, the famous Mitchell Reading Room, and take a wander through one of the library's exhibitions

ππππ« ππ ππππππ«π¬π‘π’π© ππ©ππππ‘ππ¬ ππ¨π« ππππ Today, our Year 11 students stepped up to the podium to present their speeches for the 2026 Leadership positions. Each candidate spoke passionately about their vision for the school, their commitment to our community, and the qualities they believe make an effective leader. They showed confidence, courage, and a genuine desire to serve. It was inspiring to see the maturity and enthusiasm of our senior students as they shared their hopes for making a positive impact. We congratulate all students who nominated themselves, putting their hand up for leadership takes both bravery and dedication. We look forward to announcing the successful candidates soon, knowing that our school will be in capable and caring hands.
