Chess Competition
18 Apr 2014

The 7th March 2014 was a day of enjoyment for the St Agnes Catholic High School Chess Team who showcased their chess skills and knowledge as well as the comradeship felt with each other.
During this day, the Chess team travelled to the host school, Penrith High School, where the intense competition was held. The hall was set up with four long tables and chairs, each with their own chess sets and timers. What was also exhibited during this day were the passionate gazes and intense concentration generated by all competitors, as well the continuous clicking of chess clocks.
Overall 6 secondary schools and 3 primary schools competed, with 123 competitors from the secondary stage, and 18 in the primary. St Agnes Catholic High School came 2nd overall, with the top 4 scorers contributing to this victory. The top 4 scorers were Bryan Taguibao who came 3rd, Karlo Jakovljevic who was a newcomer to the club, Edmond Luk whose rally to stall the time limit grabbed the attention of many, and Gerard Salanga, who was narrowly defeated by the top contenders.
St Agnes showed capable teamwork skills, as they cheered for their teammates before and after the chess battles. Every individual worked extremely hard to win their battles, and their effort is to be commended. At the end of the day, everyone accepted their losses with a smile whilst the winners cheerfully recorded their wins to the chess organisers. Everyone is encouraged to try the art of chess. It is a social sport that is beautiful in its own right.

He is Risen! ✝️ As our St Agnes CHS community enjoys a well-deserved break, we pause this Easter Sunday to reflect on the joy and hope of Christ’s resurrection. Easter reminds us of new beginnings, renewal, and the power of faith, even in times of rest and stillness. May this holiday be filled with peace, love, and time to reconnect with family and what matters most. Wishing all our students, families, and staff a blessed and joyful Easter. He is risen, alleluia!

On Good Friday, we remember Christ’s love shown through sacrifice. A love that calls us to stand with those who suffer, and to act with compassion and justice for all. As we reflect today, may we continue to walk together towards a more just world.

Today we remember Holy Thursday, the night of the Last Supper and the beginning of Jesus’ journey to the cross. We recall the gift of the Eucharist, where Jesus shared bread and wine and called us to love and serve one another. Jesus then went to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. In deep anguish, He turned to the Father, surrendering to His will as His hour drew near, fulfilling the Scriptures. May we take time today to pause, pray, and stay close to Him. 🙏✨
