St Agnes’ Girls in a League of their own

St Agnes League

St Agnes Catholic High School has claimed its second rugby league state schoolgirl title in three years after taking out the under-16 NSWRL schoolgirl championships at St Marys last month.

The girls’ tournament got off to the perfect start as they went undefeated through their three pool games before facing off against MacKillop Catholic College in the semi-final.

A scoring blitz from Otile Manakofua and Tyla Amiatu helped St Agnes to a dominant six tries-to-three victory as the girls secured a spot in the grand final for the third straight year.

The grand final saw St Agnes go head to head with Cronulla High School in a tough, back-and-forth clash.

The game came right down to the final siren with a missed late-game conversion from Cronulla all that separated the two teams.

“The girls put in such a big effort,” coach Chris Chavez said.

“We’re not a sports school or anything but the girls work so well with each other and they always play the best that they can. They’re a really great bunch of girls.”
